Musica D’Arredo.

It was 2011 when the Artist Nicolas Jaar released a song by the title “Space is only noise”. Quite provocatively but also very powerfully, this title ignited a deep analysis based on the reflection that regardless of where someone lives, if in a metropolitan space with its daily traffic roar, or outside the city where the forest or the rain whisper more gently, all the electrical devices which are constantly surrounding us keep on capturing our brain waves in the background creating a “dusty” noise: hence, space is noise.

While collaborating with worldwide renown architects and designers in creating beautiful spaces as the fruit of their creativity, spaces which will further inspire the ones who will experience them, we have often questioned ourselves how to translate those feelings through music: that sense of nestling in the soft textile embrace of the sofa in your living room, that focus that you urge while at the office, that convivial atmosphere enriched by familiar smells and aromas while cooking in your own kitchen room or simply that sense of fulfillment when laying down in a comfortable sun lounge at the shade of a tree, the breeze dancing through its rustling leaves ...... what is the perfect soundtrack to complement the most relevant moment of your days?

Just a few months ago, Academy Award, Golden Globe and GRAMMY Award winning composer and musician RYUICHI SAKAMOTO says, “When approaching the score for The Staggering Girl, I wanted to incorporate the tactile sound of Valentino's fabrics. So I asked them to send me some samples and utilizing special sensitive microphones, I experimented with ‘playing’ the fabrics. I love the sound and how it forces one's attention to a sound all around us, yet almost entirely ignored.”

So enlightening Maestro Sakamoto!

Moved by these inspirations, we have asked the Music Designer Ivan Minuti, to imagine a sonic tale and to articulate it through different playlists inspired by specific topics, but with the ultimate goal to remain: Music to complement a space, “Musica d’Arredo”.

It made perfect sense to us to open Musica D'Arredo with an Intro by the 90's Trip-Hop Pioneer James Lavelle, leader and founder of Uk based musical outfit "U.N.K.L.E.” and his collaboration with Christiane Kubrick, wife of the Cinematic Master Stanley Kubrick which represents a manifesto of the multiple possibilities of expressing ourselves through unconventional voices and languages, which ultimately is the basis of Unplugged.

You - you can’t evaluate or - or even describe what you’re like
Who knows? You know ... I don’t.
I have... if I had to describe myself I wouldn’t be able to, would you?
— Christiane Kubrick

The journey

Ivan Minuti has designed a journey which is divided into three main parts, reminding the structure of an Opera. The beginning awakes a morning vibe, where acoustic patterns blend along with a peaceful and bright ambiance. The second part evolves in a more dynamic tempo, moving around the same color scheme of the first act, but with a more estival nuance which anticipates and opens to the finale, where an intimate and nocturnal sound takes over.

The songs choice and its sequence represent our imaginary explorations through interiors, materials, textures, and details which creates a perfect harmony among all the styles and multitude of genres, sometimes played in different eras, despite their diversity.
